New Zealand Charity Reporting Awards 2021 winners announced

The winners and highly commended in the 2021 New Zealand Charity Reporting Awards have been announced.

The awards, organised by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), recognise best practice among registered charities in meeting financial reporting standards which give greater transparency and consistency among charities.

For the 2021 awards, CA ANZ introduced a Sustainability Award which recognises the charities that have shown the most sustainable impact.

First place winners in each of the four tiers received a $1000 prize. The highly commended in each tier and the sustainability prize winner received a $500 prize. The prizes are sponsored by chartered accounting firms BDO, RSM, Grant Thornton, William Buck, PKF and CA ANZ.

Tier 1 Winner – Comprehensive Care PHO

Comprehensive Care PHO is a community based not-for-profit Primary Health Organisation. Their purpose is to make a difference to all their people, especially vulnerable children, younger, disadvantaged, older, Māori and Pacific people, in their health and social outcomes, by being a driver of quality, innovation, connection and exciting change for healthcare in the community. Read Comprehensive Care PHO’s financial statements here.(external link)

Tier 1 Highly Commended – VisionWest Community Trust

VisionWest is a community group based in West Auckland. They provide a range of integrated community-based services including, housing, homecare, budgeting, training, kindergarten and counselling to those in need. Read VisionWest’s financial statements here(external link).

Tier 2 Winner – Zealandia/Karori Sanctuary Trust

Karori Sanctuary Trust - Zealandia is the world's first fully-fenced urban ecosanctuary, with an extraordinary 500-year vision to restore a Wellington valley's forest and freshwater ecosystems as closely as possible to their pre-human state. Tier 2 Highly Commended – Fred Hollows Foundation

The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ works to end avoidable blindness in the Pacific. They work to restore sight to the needlessly blind through the provision of sight-saving surgeries and treatments, and by training local eye health specialists to deliver eye care services in their own communities. Tier 3 Winner – Parent Aid North West

Parent Aid North West is a not-for-profit organisation based in North-West Auckland. They support parents by providing free practical help to families of pre-school children. Read Parent Aid North West’s performance report here. [PDF, 2.1 MB]

Tier 3 Highly Commended – Bellyful New Zealand Trust

Bellyful was 'born' out the desire to see families supported by their fellow community members. Bellyful cooks and delivers meals to families with newborn babies and families with young children who are struggling with illness, where there is little or no family or social support. Tier 4 Winner – Citizens Advice Bureau Tauranga

The Citizens Advice Bureau Tauranga provides free, confidential, independent information and advice. They aim to ensure that individuals do not suffer through ignorance of their rights and responsibilities, or of the services available, or through an inability to express their needs effectively. Read the Citizens Advice Bureau Tauranga’s performance report here. Tier 4 Highly Commended – Track Zero

Track Zero delivers creative platforms for the arts, science and others, to inspire transformative climate action. They aim to work together to build a resilient, carbon-neutral society that is fair for all of us. Read Track Zero’s performance report here.(external link)

Sustainability Award Joint Winner – Kaipātiki Project Incorporated

Kaipātiki Project Incorporated aims to inspire and empower people to share in nature's revival and live lightly on the planet.
