The role of Charities Services

Charities Services (Ngā Ratonga Kaupapa Atawhai) regulates registered charities in New Zealand. Our focus is on increasing public trust and confidence in the charitable sector through effective regulation.

We maintain the Charities Register, the public record of all registered charities operating under the Charities Act 2005.

Charities Services supports Te Rātā Atawhai, the independent Charities Registration Board (the Board). The Board meets regularly to apply the law and make decisions about whether organisations qualify for charitable status.
