2014 Annual Meeting


The 2014 annual meeting was held on the 17th October in Wellington and was well attended.

The Hon Jo Goodhew the Minister for the Community and Voluntary Sector opened the meeting, and you can read the Minister’s speech here. (external link)  

During the annual meeting participants were inspired by two keynote speakers from the charitable sector who showcased some of their work and successes:

Dr Sharad Paul, author, skin cancer specialist; founder of the Baci Foundation (external link)  which runs literacy and mentoring programmes for disadvantaged children. True democracy of heroism lies in the recognition that you and I, all ordinary people, can be capable of extraordinary acts of courage and conviction ~ Sharad Paul

Sue van Schreven, who founded Orphan’s Aid International (external link)  with her husband Carl 10 years ago. The trust now has projects in 6 countries, and feeds approximately 700 children a day. “Some wish to live within Church or Chapel bell, I want to build a rescue shop within a yard of hell." Our Department of Internal Affairs colleague Robyn Nicholas, General Manager, Community Operations, talked about their work and upcoming changes to their grants management system.

Lastly, Charities Services General Manager, Lesa Kalapu spoke about our work over the year, our future direction, and responded to diverse questions from attendees.
